Cs majors and Ai

Our story talks about how AI is complicating DU undergrads and graduates. A lot of them already have PHD’s and are still taking DU courses to fulfill experience requirements. They’re scared that they will never get a job and it’s a very anxious and competitive time for them because the job market is not only scarce but also very particular anyway, and adding AI to their job makes it nearly impossible. We interviewed four students and asked them questions about how they feel at the current moment and now that AI is taking over how is it impacting them personally. A lot of them feel defeated, angry, and desperate at this time so this connects to life after DU and the consequences of AI and the foreseeable future getting stronger technologically.

We think that this kind of anxiety would be good to report on because it can happen to anyone. This applies to both post grad and Undergraduate students. As you will see in this video both are still unsure about what to do and even going through graduate school is a lot after being through college and it’s proven that even having a PHD is not enough. This also may be a call to action towards job recruitments, not like they will really do anything about it. Seeing people desperate for even an entry level position of being a receptionist or base sale’s person really calls attention to the unfairness and devastation that is the job market.

This makes a good video, because it talks about stuff that is happening in the moment as well as something that goes on into the future. Think of this as an evergreen journalism news topic. There has been reporting about AI taking over jobs but people tend to not really listen because they’re either focusing on the job they have now or their schoolwork and when the time comes it will come. This video also adds to the vulnerability and uncertainty, which gathers attention for a news reporting video while also being school based.

The interview techniques we used were that we took b-roll from the comp sci building as well around the campus and the royalty free clips we could from the internet as well to show that it is a school issue. We also wanted the interviews to flow nicely with the prompting of the questions and each of them would answer in their own ways without being repetitive, another technique we tried to Implement was the multiple shot to associate different emotions during Jake’s interview we positioned our camera in multiple areas to show Jake’s general feelings and shifting tone. We already had a lot of footage beforehand, so cutting it down and choosing what exactly we wanted to keep was a process but it’s better to have more than less. There was also interview footage where we used different camera angles from the side, front facing, and a low angle to show the dimensions and make the video more entertaining. We also wanted it to be relatively quick and get out the best information as possible. The topic itself is very reportable and adds shock factor (sorry to the comp sci majors for making it even more depressing). We look forward again to shooting a video,  maybe with the same techniques as this one but obviously with a different topic and an addition to different b-roll footage so the videos don’t get too repetitive even though they are DU based.
